Hi, I go by K and live in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. I’m originally from SE Wisconsin, near Milwaukee, but moved here to go to college. I love it. It’s gorgeous and mostly mild in climate (we will not speak of the un-Virginia-like horror of Winter 2010).
I’m midway through my second year of graduate school at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. I’m working towards an MLIS, or master’s in library and information studies, so that I can be a professional Librarian. I’ve worked in my library for four years and am considered a “Library Specialist.” I have four snuggly kitties and a messy–or should I say, “bohemian”– 1920’s bungalow. I love to write, read, cook, dine at restaurants, travel, sing and listen to music, do yoga, and hang with my fantastic family of friends.
I’ve been a lacto-ovo vegetarian since 1999 and haven’t eaten red meat or pork since 1991. So being veg is definitely not a “phase” or experiment for me; it’s a heart-felt path and lifestyle that I’ve consciously and consistently pursued since childhood. Any recipes or restaurant reviews you read here will be undeniably vegetarian and some may be vegan. I like to incorporate veganism when I purchase household and beauty products and am thinking of going that way more with my diet, but so far I’m pretty committed to cheese and other dairy items. I pretty much adore cheese. I think it’s a requirement of my place of birth to consume some kind of dairy in order to be let back into the state.
My goal for this blog is to write consistently and share with you some good recipes, interesting tales of librariana, my favorite songs, cute kitty goings-on, and a smattering of book reviews and travel fun. I’d also like to do a very thorough recounting of all of the wonderful vegetarian options at area restaurants (and anywhere I travel), local and chain alike. Just so you know what’s out there, and good, in SW Virginia and beyond.
